Everyone a winner at Veterans Hospital

Volunteers from the Mission Viejo Elks Lodge, along with volunteers from the Santa Ana Elks Lodge, hosted Bingo at the Long Beach Veterans Hospital on November 11. We were pleased to see so many veterans participate in the Bingo, all with big smiles on their faces and many cracking jokes. Besides our usual goodies of cookies, muffins and lemonade, the Mission Viejo Lodge brought many items of clothing, pants, shirts, hats, socks and shoes. But best of all, were the blankets that were made by the young adults at Esperanza School for Special Education. The veterans each chose one that matched their branch of service. Sheryn Howlett passed out “thank you” cards that the Esperanza students made for the veterans thanking them for their service which was a big hit. Elk Lloyd Bryan was the Bingo caller for the night. Lucky Walch was very popular as he passed out money to the lucky winners. The highlight of the night was meeting Wynona McGowan, a 105 year young veteran of the Army. What a delight she is!  A special thanks to first time Elk volunteers, Michelle Wild and Linda Myers and the rest of the group, including Carol Bryan, Kathy Andrews, Dave Perry, Sandie McClure and Andy Dumont.  The Elks said their farewells looking forward to December 9 for the Elks Christmas visit.
